Guitar String Metallurgy

Why electric guitar strings produce electric sound?

Electric guitar strings have ferrous metal in their steel composition. It is the ferrous metal that makes it possible for the electric guitar strings to be attracted to magnetism. But, what is the ferrous metal? It is iron. Iron is the ferrous base metal to the steel composition that electric guitar strings are made out of. The steel composition that electric guitar strings are made out of is high carbon steel. The elements of the high carbon steel formula vary in their percentage ratios according to the manufacturer. There is a percentage of carbon, and there is a percentage of iron. Plus, other elements are added in like manganese, silicon, and copper to accomplish their purpose. There are also other elements that could be added in at much smaller percentages for many different reasons. But, why is it so important that electric guitar strings have to be able to be attracted to magnetism? The reason why this is so important is that when the electric guitar strings are picked or strummed to produce music on they are going to vibrate through a magnetic field that is being produced by the guitar pickups through electromagnetic induction. The next step is that the music information that is being produced by the electric guitar strings in the electromagnetic induction field is being gripped onto – by a flowing mass of electron matter unable to be seen nor observed as tangible to the human eyes without the proper high power magnification – and pulled down in the direction where the magnetic pull is coming from. And, at the same time it is being converted into electromagnetic energy and electrically charged particles by the pickup transducers on the electric guitar – thus producing the electrical signal – then sent to the amplifier for amplification. This electromagnetic technology is what makes it possible for the electric guitar to produce the music sound that comes out the amplifier. As a result, the proper guitar string metallurgy is very important to the success of this function. It has to have the iron – ferrous – base metal in the steel composition of the electric guitar strings in order for this technology to work.
